“And Better Goods…” – The Gruyter Tea Tin with English Fox Hunting Décor

  • Manufacturer: De Gruyter Fabrieken, 's-Hertogenbosch
  • Year of Manufacture: Circa 1950 – 1960

Product Description:
This decorative and nostalgic tea tin, produced by the renowned Dutch retail chain De Gruyter, features a classic green color and is adorned with detailed scenes of the English fox hunt. Dogs, riders in red jackets, and rural inns embellish the sides and lid of this rectangular tin.

The tin is tall with a hinged lid featuring two hanging hinges, resting on a base rim. The bottom has a crimped seam, and the famous slogan "And better goods, and 10%, only at De Gruyter" is embossed in relief.

These tins were made exclusively for De Gruyter and reflect the company’s rich design and customer-focused marketing. The depicted hunting scenes were likely inspired by 19th-century works of English artists like Henry Alken, known for his illustrations of traditional sporting scenes.
