Vintage Bahlsen Anniversary Biscuit Tin – 50 Years of H. Bahlsen’s Keksfabrik (1939)

  • Manufacturer: H. Bahlsens
  • Date of Manufacture: 1939

Product Description:
In 1939, the German manufacturer H. Bahlsen’s Keksfabrik K.G. from Hanover released this commemorative biscuit tin to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. This metal tin is a tangible piece of historical brand promotion, featuring a design that is both functional and decorative.

The tin is finished in a golden hue and displays detailed, stylized illustrations of birds, plants, flowers, horses, and deer. These decorative elements reflect influences from Art Deco and Jugendstil, two design movements that were popular in the early 20th century and are thoughtfully incorporated into the design. The images are printed directly onto the metal, making this tin not just a storage container, but also a visually appealing object with artistic value.

The embossed inscription on the underside reads: “50 JAHRE H. BAHLSENS KEKSFABRIK K.G. HANNOVER”, confirming both the origin and commemorative purpose of this piece.

Dimensions:
Measuring 23 cm in length, 15.5 cm in width, and 8.5 cm in height, the tin provides ample storage space while remaining compact enough to function as a decorative item.

Condition:
The biscuit tin is in good vintage condition, showing light wear on the corners—appropriate for its age.

With its sturdy metal construction and historical significance, this anniversary tin is a compelling collectible—especially for enthusiasts of industrial history, vintage packaging, or brand-related memorabilia.

Thanks to its blend of aesthetics, utility, and historical context, this Bahlsen tin is a fine example of how brands visually and tangibly reinforced their identity in the early 20th century.

About the Manufacturer:
Bahlsen GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1889 by Hermann Bahlsen in Hanover, starting with the acquisition of the "Hannoversche Cakesfabrik." The company grew rapidly and, in 1891, introduced the famous Leibniz biscuit—Bahlsen’s most iconic product—which began production in the United States in 1894. In 1904, Bahlsen launched the TET packaging, a major innovation that helped keep products fresh for longer.

By 1905, the company already employed 300 people and pioneered the first assembly line production in Europe. Since then, Bahlsen has maintained its position as a leading biscuit manufacturer, operating five production facilities across Europe and exporting to 55 countries worldwide.
