- Production Period: 1930 - 1937
Product Description:
This vintage tin, produced by Douwe Egberts between 1930 and 1937, is a classic example from the series used for Pickwick tea packaging. The rectangular tin features a slightly domed hinged lid with a small handle for easy opening. The lid is adorned with a charming scene of a boat docking at a riverside coffee and tea house, capturing the nostalgic ambiance of the era.
The tin’s base color consists of deep yellow to orange hues with a crackled finish, enhancing its authentic vintage appeal. A green border decorates the lid and upper edges, while the tin stands on four round feet arranged in a triangular pattern along the edges. The design is subtle yet thoughtfully executed, and the absence of the typical Douwe Egberts logo makes its origin less immediately recognizable.
Condition:
This tin is in good, original condition, showing normal signs of use and light wear consistent with its age. A similar tin was also produced in a square variant, but this rectangular version is less commonly found.

Douwe Egberts and Pickwick
Founded in 1753, Douwe Egberts is an iconic brand that originated from the grocery store of Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses in Joure. Initially specializing in coffee, tea, and tobacco, the company grew into one of the most renowned brands in the Netherlands. In 1937, Pickwick tea was introduced, its name inspired by Charles Dickens' The Pickwick Papers, after the director’s wife drew inspiration from the novel.
This vintage tin is a tangible piece of Douwe Egberts and Pickwick’s rich history and a sought-after collectible for enthusiasts of vintage packaging and tea tins.
