The Jodenkoek: A Classic Cookie with Historical Reach
The jodenkoek, a large, flat shortbread cookie with a diameter of about 10 cm, has a long history. Early advertisements for this cookie date back to the 1870s, gaining fame through bakeries such as those of C. Strunck and Foppe Egbertus de Haan. In Alkmaar, production began in 1883 when pastry chef Stam introduced the cookie. In 1924, Dirk Davelaar took over the bakery, continuing a tradition that endures to this day.

Historical and Collector's Value
This tin is not only a practical storage container but also a decorative item with a rich historical story. Its nostalgic look and the illustrations of Alkmaar windmills make it a unique piece for collectors and enthusiasts of traditional Dutch baked goods. The Davelaar Jodenkoek remains a timeless treat that connects generations.
