Background Information
Amstel Beer, established in 1871 on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam, has a rich and fascinating history. The beer was originally brewed by the Bavarian Brewery De Amstel and quickly gained fame. By 1872, a million liters of pilsner were brewed, using ice from the Amsterdam canals to keep the beer cool.
After the acquisition by Heineken in 1968, the Amstel brewery on the Mauritskade was closed, but the 1930 headquarters is still in use as part of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The production of Amstel Beer now takes place at Heineken breweries in Zoeterwoude, 's-Hertogenbosch, and Wijlre.
With this pastel blue beer mug, you bring home a piece of beer history, perfect as a decorative object or as an addition to your collection.
