Background Information
Amstel Beer, first brewed in 1871 on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam, has a rich history. It was produced by the Bavarian Brewery De Amstel and quickly grew in popularity. By 1872, the Amstel Brewery was brewing a million liters of pilsner, using ice from the Amsterdam canals for cooling and storing the beer.
In 1968, Amstel was acquired by Heineken, leading to the demolition of the brewery on the Mauritskade. However, the headquarters from 1930 has been preserved and now forms part of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The production of Amstel beer continues at Heineken breweries in Zoeterwoude, 's-Hertogenbosch, and Wijlre.
With this stoneware beer mug, you not only bring home a functional item but also a piece of beer history. Perfect for collectors or as a decorative item in your home.
