Vintage Douwe Egberts / Pickwick Teaspoon Box from 1954

  • Manufacturer: Douwe Egberts for Pickwick
  • Manufacturing Date: 1954

Product Description:
This vintage teaspoon box from Douwe Egberts, produced in 1954, offers a unique blend of functionality and nostalgia for tea enthusiasts. The elongated, oval tin was made by Douwe Egberts for their Pickwick tea and serves as a charming collectable with a rich history.

The box features a detailed design, with a hinged lid and a wavy edge that gives it an elegant appearance. The cream-coloured lid displays a picturesque panorama of an old town, complete with spires, windmills, a drawbridge, and sailing ships. This scene is further enhanced by a gold-coloured rim and images of trees on the sides, contributing to the refined look of the tin.

The inside of the box is lined with red fabric, featuring a brown-and-white illustration, and the lid opens smoothly thanks to a special hinge mechanism with five smaller hinges. This makes it both a practical and aesthetic addition to any tea collection.

The box was originally available through collecting stamps with the purchase of Pickwick tea, adding to its value as a collectable.

Douwe Egberts, established in 1753, is a well-known name in the Dutch food industry, recognized for its coffee and tea. The Pickwick tea brand, introduced in 1937, is inspired by Charles Dickens' "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club" and has since played a significant role in the tea experience.
