Background of Verkade:
Verkade, founded on May 2, 1886, by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade, has a rich history that began with the opening of the Steam Bread and Biscuit Factory "De Ruyter" in West Zaandam. The name "De Ruyter" was a tribute to the first flour mill in the region. Initially, Verkade produced bread, biscuits, honey, gingerbread, and "Langetjes," later expanding its range to include tealights. Since then, the factory has evolved into the production of cookies and chocolate. In 1950, Verkade was awarded the Royal designation, an acknowledgement that underscores the prestigious status of the brand.
