Paintings Featured on the Tin:

  • The Peasant Wedding (1567-1568): This painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder depicts a wedding feast in a barn. The scene emphasizes the everyday life of peasants, with elements like sheaves of corn and a broken door used as a table. The painting includes a self-portrait of Bruegel, portrayed as a bearded man in black. The original is housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

  • The Census at Bethlehem (1566): Now located in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels, this painting shows a winter landscape with a census taking place in a medieval Brabant village. The work is known for its detail and historical representation.

  • The Peasant Dance (circa 1569): Exhibited in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, this painting depicts a group of peasants dancing, possibly with a moral message. The presence of a peacock feather on a hat and the disdain of the church by the dancers add a deeper meaning to the image.
