Historical Background:
Wilhelmina Helena Pauline Maria (1880-1962) was a significant Queen of the Netherlands. Born on August 31, 1880, in The Hague, she reigned from November 23, 1890, until September 4, 1948. Wilhelmina was the only daughter of King Willem III and Queen Emma. Her mother served as regent until Wilhelmina officially became queen at the age of 18.
Wilhelmina married Hendrik of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and had one daughter, Juliana. During World War II, she fled to England, and due to health issues, Crown Princess Juliana temporarily took over the regency in 1947 and 1948. In 1948, Wilhelmina officially abdicated the throne, but her nearly 50-year reign made her the longest-serving Dutch monarch ever.
Conclusion:
This jubilee tin of Queen Wilhelmina is not only a tangible reminder of an important era in Dutch history but also a valuable collectable. The detailed decorations and historical context make it a unique item for any collector of vintage memorabilia and royal objects.
