The Royal Wedding: Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard
The marriage between Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard is an important and historic moment for the Netherlands. Princess Juliana was Queen Wilhelmina's daughter and married Prince Bernhard von Lippe-Biesterfeld on October 4, 1937. Their marriage was both a personal and political affair, strengthening the ties between the Dutch royal family and the European aristocracy.
Prince Bernhard, originally from Germany, was a colourful and influential figure, and their marriage significantly impacted Dutch society and the royal house. The couple had four daughters: Beatrix (who later became queen), Irene, Margriet, and Christina. Their marriage was not without challenges, but it remains an important part of Dutch royal history.
There were also some controversies and challenges during their marriage, particularly concerning Prince Bernhard's involvement in certain scandals and his business activities. Nonetheless, their relationship remains an essential part of the modern Dutch monarchy.
