Product Description:
This vintage candy tin, storage tin, or biscuit tin is a collectable from the 1950s-1960s, manufactured by Van Melle in collaboration with Et. J. Schuybroek N.V. The tin has a square shape and features a hinged lid. It was originally used as product packaging for storing candies, cookies, or other items.

Decoration and Appearance:
The tin has a decorative brown background with gold-coloured details. Each side features a drawing of a boy running with a golf club behind his dog, which has a golf ball in its mouth. The lid displays a colourful illustration of a boy trying to hit a golf ball. This nostalgic design gives the tin a unique charm.

Background of Van Melle:
Van Melle began around 1840 as a bakery in Breskens and expanded into producing sugar balls. In 1900, Izaak van Melle started producing these candies mechanically. Around 1920, Izaak's brother Dirk-Machiel started a factory for biscuits and wafers, including the famous Maria biscuit.

In 1926, the product range expanded to include toffees and caramels, such as fruit caramel and peppermint caramel, which became popular under the names Fruittella and Mentos. Van Melle sought international recipes and markets worldwide. In 1935, the company purchased the first company aircraft in the Netherlands, the Dubbele Arend. After the factory in Breskens was destroyed by bombing in 1944, production resumed in 1946 in Rotterdam.
