Historical Context:
Verkade is an iconic Dutch brand that traces its origins to May 2, 1886, when Ericus Gerhardus Verkade opened his Steam-, Bread- and Biscuit Factory “De Ruyter”. The name “De Ruyter” honoured the first flour mill in West Zaandam. Originally, Verkade produced bread, rusks, honey cake, and Langetjes. The range later expanded to include tea lights. The Verkade brand has since evolved into a leading producer of cookies and chocolate. The heritage of “De Ruyter” is still evident in Verkade's current logo.
This cookie tin is a representative example of Verkade products from the 1970s to 1980s and offers a piece of Dutch history and culture, packaged in an attractive and functional design.
