Background Information:
Pickwick is a tea brand by Douwe Egberts, introduced in 1937. Previously, Douwe Egberts had been selling unbranded tea from a shop in Joure since 1753. The name 'Pickwick' was inspired by Charles Dickens' book "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club." The wife of the then-director suggested this English-sounding name.

Douwe Egberts, founded in 1753 by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thysses in Joure, began as a "colonial goods store." Their range included products that "belong to the pleasures of daily life," such as groceries, chocolate, and dried fruit. After being taken over by their son Douwe Egberts and his wife Ymke Jacobs Visser in 1780, the company expanded its activities, focusing on the processing and blending of coffee, tea, and tobacco.

Douwe Egberts continued to grow, even after World War II, with international expansion into France, Spain, Denmark, and Belgium starting in 1948.

This vintage tea tin is not only a functional storage container but also a beautiful piece of Douwe Egberts and Pickwick history, ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of nostalgic decor.
