- Manufacturer: Douwe Egberts
- Manufacturing Date: 1967 - 1970
Product Description:
In the world of coffee enthusiasts, Douwe Egberts has gained renown not only for its delicious coffee but also for its beautiful collectibles. A notable example is the rectangular coffee tin in European Folk Art style, released as part of a series of three unique tins during the period of 1967-1970.
This red-colored tin is adorned with authentic Hindeloopen, Finnish, or Yugoslavian paintings in vibrant orange and blue hues. What makes this tin particularly special is the absence of the DE logo on both the lid and the body, giving it a mysterious and exclusive appearance.
Dimensions:
The tin, with a height of 6 cm, length of 17 cm, and width of 10.5 cm, consists of separate parts for the lid and the body. This artistic series was specially commissioned by Douwe Egberts and served as a valuable addition to their range. Interestingly, it was offered as a bonus item in a promotion that included a half-pound package of DE Red Label coffee for only Hfl 2.75, during the period from 1967 to 1970.
Condition:
While this Douwe Egberts tin has withstood the test of time, it does show signs of vintage use and age-related wear. The attached photos provide a detailed look at the condition of this charming collectible and are an integral part of the description. Combining history and art in one, this coffee tin reflects the rich tradition of Douwe Egberts and adds a touch of European folk art to any collection.
Douwe Egberts is a well-known Dutch brand, particularly famous for its coffee products. The company was founded in 1753 by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses in Joure, Friesland. In its early years, the company focused on selling groceries, including coffee, tea, and tobacco.
Douwe Egberts grew over the years to become one of the most iconic coffee brands in the Netherlands and beyond. They are involved in the entire coffee chain, from selecting coffee beans to roasting and packaging coffee products. In addition to coffee, Douwe Egberts also offers tea and other beverages, as well as coffee makers and related accessories.
The brand is not only known for its products but also for its role in the social and cultural aspects of daily life in the Netherlands. For example, Douwe Egberts is renowned for its "koffiepottenactie" (coffee pot promotion), where consumers could collect coffee points for various gifts. The company has undergone various changes and mergers over the years, but the brand remains a significant part of Dutch coffee culture.
