Royal Theodorus Niemeyer BV, located in Groningen, was a prominent tobacco manufacturer and was part of British American Tobacco (BAT).

It started as a family business, founded by Meindert Niemeijer on March 25, 1819, originally trading in colonial goods. Located just outside the city of Groningen, it offered a range of products from the colonies, including tobacco. Later, it evolved into the production of tobacco under the brand 'het Wapen van Rotterdam,' where the company controlled both the production and sale of twist tobacco.

After the takeover by Theodorus Niemeijer in 1848, the company expanded its activities. In addition to production under its own brand, it also began producing for other companies, such as 'de Bijenkorf' and 'de Tabakshandel.' It even diversified into the production of coffee and tea.

During the Great Depression of 1932/1933, the company temporarily switched to the production of coffee and tea in response to challenging economic conditions. During World War II, it survived by producing coffee and tea substitutes under the name Savora.

In the twentieth century, Niemeyer BV grew significantly, acquiring several tobacco manufacturers in Groningen, including F. Lieftinck, and entering international markets. Despite this expansion, the company withdrew from the coffee and tea business in the 1960s due to heavy competition from Douwe Egberts. Niemeyer continued its tobacco production under the brand Samson. In honour of its 150th anniversary in 1969, the company received the Royal distinction.

In 1990, Niemeyer BV became part of the international Rothmans Group, which, in turn, merged with British American Tobacco in 1999. This incorporation into a larger conglomerate led to Royal Theodorus Niemeyer BV being part of this entity. The factory remained in Groningen until 2022 when it closed its doors.
