Royal Theodorus Niemeyer BV, located in Groningen, was a prominent tobacco manufacturer and part of British American Tobacco (BAT).

Originally, Niemeyer BV started as a family business stemming from trade in colonial goods. Meindert Niemeijer established this trade on March 25, 1819, just outside the city. They offered an array of products from the colonies, including tobacco. Later, the trade expanded into tobacco production under the brand 'het Wapen van Rotterdam'. This allowed the company to control both the production and sale of chewing tobacco.

After being taken over by Theodorus Niemeijer in 1848, the company began producing under its own brand as well as for other companies such as 'de Bijenkorf' and 'de Tabakshandel'. Additionally, the company diversified into coffee and tea production.

During the Great Depression of 1932/1933, the company temporarily shifted to coffee and tea production in response to challenging economic conditions. Throughout World War II, the company survived by producing coffee and tea substitutes under the name Savora.

In the 20th century, Niemeyer BV experienced significant growth. It acquired various tobacco manufacturers in Groningen, including F. Lieftinck, and entered international markets. Despite this expansion, in the 1960s, the company was forced to withdraw from the coffee and tea market due to fierce competition from Douwe Egberts. Niemeyer continued its tobacco production under the brand Samson. In honor of its 150th anniversary in 1969, the company received the Royal distinction.

In 1990, Niemeyer BV became part of the international Rothmans Group. Subsequently, Rothmans Group merged with British American Tobacco in 1999, incorporating Royal Theodorus Niemeyer BV into this larger conglomerate. The factory remained in Groningen until 2022, when it closed its doors.
