Mastermind is a classic among logical thinking games. The objective of the game is for one player to unravel the other player's secret code.
The codemaker secretly chooses five code pegs and places them in a specific order behind the shield. It is allowed to choose two or more pegs of the same colour. The codemaker can choose from six different colours. The hidden code is what the codebreaker must try to unravel.
On their turn, the codebreaker places five code pegs of their choice in an empty row. Then, the code maker indicates how well the codebreaker has done using key pegs:
Black pegs: indicate that a color is in the correct position. White pegs: indicate how many colors are present in the code but are not in the correct position. With this new information, the codebreaker can place four additional code pegs in the next empty row.
If the code maker has placed four black pegs, the code is cracked. Then, the roles switch. The player who took the minimum number of turns to crack the code is the winner of the game.
If both players require the same number of turns to crack the code, two additional rounds can be played to determine the ultimate winner of the game.
