The Story Behind "Kat Emaille": The De Anker Enamel Factories

In the heart of the wooded Soestduinen, once stood the impressive Kat enamel factories. Although the factory has been closed for many years, the old complex remains as a silent witness to an era of craftsmanship and unique creations. Under the leadership of Mr. Rollman, a German by birth, the Kat factories were a breeding ground for cultural influences that characterized the enamel work of the factory. With unusual decorations and special designs, Kat Enamel distinguished itself, even under different names such as Bulldog and Pantser Enamel.

The De Anker enamel factories, also known as "Kat Enamel," were renowned Dutch manufacturers of high-quality enamel products in their heyday. The factory was founded in 1824 and was located in the picturesque town of Hoogeveen. The name "Kat" became synonymous with durability, quality, and the distinctive appearance of enamel.

In later years, the factory moved to the idyllic Soestduinen, where it found its new home amidst lush forests. The complex, although now abandoned, still carries the memories of the glory days of the Kat enamel factories. It was there that Mr. Rollman's visionary leadership took the factory to new heights.

Rollman's cultural background, being of German descent himself, strongly influenced Kat Enamel's products. This influence is clearly visible in the many unusual decorations depicted on the usual kitchen items. Kat's enamel work was far from ordinary, but rather an artistic expression of Rollman's vision. It was these distinctive designs that made Kat Enamelso special and gave the factory a unique place in the market.

In addition to the well-known name "Kat," the factory's enamel products were also marketed under various other names. Bulldog and Pantser Enamel were some of these alternative brand names. This allowed the factory to explore different styles and aesthetic choices, further expanding its range.

Unfortunately, like many industrial establishments, the era of the De Anker enamel factories and the Kat Enamel brand eventually came to an end. The factory closed its doors, and production ceased in 1996. Nevertheless, the products from that time continue to be beloved by collectors and enthusiasts of vintage and retro kitchenware, keeping the memory of the illustrious history of the Kat enamel factories alive.
