This magnificent storage tin from the 1950s-1960s was manufactured by AJP - Niemeyer and was part of the coffee and tea department of Niemeyer until 1975. With its unique features and vintage charm, this tin is a valuable addition to any antique collection.
The tin features a separate hinged lid and has a folded seam at the back, giving it an authentic character. The reseda green base of the tin is beautifully accentuated by a gold and black checkerboard pattern at the top and bottom. In the centre, there is a gold-coloured rectangle with the word "Sugar" written in black block letters. At the bottom of the tin, you can find the embossed A.J.P. brand mark, which adds to its special appeal.
Behind the initials, AJP lies the story of Abraham Josef Polak from Groningen, who started producing pudding powder in 1899. As the company grew, his sons Moritz and Eduard took over and continued his work. Until 1975, the pudding factory A.J.P. was part of the coffee and tea department of Niemeyer, a well-known tobacco manufacturer.

A.J.P.
The initials AJP stand for Abraham Josef Polak, an entrepreneur from Groningen. In 1899, Abraham Josef Polak started producing pudding powder, inspired by an English invention. This powder allowed people to easily and quickly make delicious pudding by adding milk to it. In 1903, Polak moved to a building on Hereweg in Groningen to further expand the production of pudding powder. The pudding was marketed under the name A.J.P. After Abraham Polak's passing in 1924, his sons, Moritz and Eduard, took over the company and continued his work.
Until 1975, the A.J.P. pudding factory was part of the coffee and tea department of the tobacco manufacturer Niemeyer.
