Description
Vintage Verkade tin box for cookies and biscuits. The tin has a rectangular shape with rounded corners and is equipped with a separate lid.

The decoration of the tin consists of a yellow background with an Amsterdam cityscape in the snow on all sides. The cityscapes are framed in red with a blue palmette on each corner. On the lid, the Brouwersgracht with drawbridge and warehouses. Around the side of the tin (clockwise): The Verkadefabrieken in Zaandam seen from the Zaan / 'De Amstelhoek' with open drawbridge / De Prins Hendrikkade with Schreierstoren, Nicolaaskerk and Central Station / 'De Magere Brug'. The name 'Verkade' is on the bottom left of the lid.

Condition
This tin is in a vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

Verkade is originally a Dutch company that manufactured articles such as rusk, chocolate and biscuits. Tea lights were also manufactured for some time. The Verkade factories have traditionally been located in Zaandam and are important in the development of the food industry in the Zaan region.

Verkade was founded on May 2, 1886. Then Ericus Gerhardus Verkade opened his steam, bread and rusk factory “De Ruyter”. The name “De Ruyter” was chosen with a bow to the past; the first flour mill in West Zaandam bore that name. The products of the first hour were; bread, rusk, honey gingerbread and Langetjes, later the tea lights were added. “De Ruyter” is still recognizable in the logo of the Verkade brand. Over time, Verkade switched to making cookies and chocolate.
