Vintage tin for 750 grams of smoking tobacco No. 525

Description
Rectangular vintage tin by Niemeijer for Roode Ster tobacco, original Friesche Heerenbaai. This tin is equipped with a hinged lid. The decoration of the tin consists of a gold-coloured background with brown and red details. On the lid is an image of a tobacco jar with various pipes.

The box itself has, among other things, images of two ships, an oxcart and a tobacco plantation.

Condition
This tobacco tin is in good vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear. The photos are part of the description.

Koninklijke Theodorus Niemeyer BV, formerly known as Niemeijer, is a Dutch tobacco company founded in 1819 by Theodorus Niemeijer in Groningen. The company started as a small tobacco shop and over time grew into one of the largest tobacco producers in the Netherlands.

Niemeijer produced various types of tobacco, including pipe tobacco, rolling tobacco and cigars. The company had several factories in the Netherlands and also exported tobacco to other countries. Niemeijer was best known for its pipe tobaccos, including the Roode Ster, Theodorus Niemeijer and Original Friesche Heerenbaai brands.

In the 1990s, the tobacco industry faced declining sales and increasing pressure from anti-tobacco activists and governments imposing stricter regulations on the industry. Niemeijer had to restructure to face the competition and was eventually taken over in 1998 by British American Tobacco (BAT), one of the largest tobacco companies in the world.
