Koninklijke De Ruijter is a Dutch brand known for producing a range of spreads and toppings for bread, including chocolate sprinkles, fruit sprinkles, and almond paste. The company was founded in 1860 by Johannes de Ruijter and was granted the Royal Warrant by Queen Wilhelmina in 1913, giving the brand its current name of Koninklijke De Ruijter, which translates to "Royal De Ruijter".

The company began as a bakery in the city of Baarn, located in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Johannes de Ruijter and his wife ran the bakery, but it was their son Gerrit who turned the business into a manufacturer of bread toppings. Gerrit saw an opportunity to create a new type of bread topping that would appeal to children, and in 1928 he introduced a product that would become the company's most famous and enduring: chocolate sprinkles, or "hagelslag" in Dutch.

Hagelslag quickly became a popular treat for Dutch children and is now a staple in many Dutch households. The product is typically made from small pieces of chocolate that are shaped like tiny cylinders and can be sprinkled on top of bread, toast, or crackers. De Ruijter's chocolate sprinkles are made with high-quality cocoa and are available in several varieties, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate.

Over the years, De Ruijter has expanded its product line to include other bread toppings and spreads, such as fruit sprinkles made with real fruit juice and almond paste made with roasted almonds. The company has also introduced new packaging formats, such as single-serve sachets of hagelslag that are convenient for on-the-go snacking.

Today, Koninklijke De Ruijter is owned by the Dutch food company Heinz, but the brand remains a beloved part of Dutch food culture. De Ruijter's products can be found in supermarkets and speciality food shops throughout the Netherlands, and the company continues to innovate and introduce new products to appeal to changing tastes and preferences.
