Description
Vintage chocolate tin with an elongated rectangular shape and fitted with a hinged lid. The tin has a folding edge and a support front, seamed bottom and side seam. The hinge is a hanging hinge and the lid is finished without seams.

The decoration of the tin consists of a brown background with gold-coloured lettering. Cream lid with 7 rows of 4 chocolates in relief, on which the name Carro. The tin has a gold colored inside and bottom. Text on tin: Chocolate Carro's A.DRIESSEN. Bottom and sides: NV Cacao & Chocolaad Factories A. Driessen. Net 1/2 kilo Made in Holland Rotterdam.

Condition
This tin is in a beautiful brocante/vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

A. Driessen is a Dutch brand name of chocolate. The factory of A. Driessen had been located in Rotterdam since 1820.

The raw material cocoa came from the former colony of Suriname. In 1854, the Driessen Cocoa and Chocolate Factory in the Rotterdam district of Rubroek was taken into use. Later the company was moved to the Rechter Rottekade.

In 1871, the company was awarded the predicate purveyor to the court. In 1893 the factory was expanded and by the end of the century Driessen was one of the most important chocolate companies in the Netherlands. After the outbreak of a crisis on the cocoa market in 1907, raw material prices rose sharply. However, it was the stock market crash of 1929 and the subsequent Great Depression that killed the factory. In 1935, Driessen was taken over by the Breda chocolate factory Kwatta. After more than a century, the once famous company came to an end.
