Description
Beautiful nostalgic Dutch set of two tins produced by Tomado. The cans are equipped with a loose lid. The decoration on the tins consists of various old Dutch scenes. Originating from the 1960s and illustrated with canal houses, playing children, flowers and trees. There is a seamed longitudinal seam at the back.

Both tins are marked on the bottom in relief with "Tomado made in Holland".

Condition
This set of tins is in a good vintage condition with traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

Tomado was a Dutch company for household products, especially plasticized wire steel.

The company was founded in 1923 in Dordrecht by the Van der Togt brothers. Tomado stands for Van der Togt Massa Articles Dordrecht. Originally it was a small company that manufactured simple wallpaper hooks from copper wire, with which photos could be hung on the wallpaper. After the Dutch Association of Housewives had commissioned the company to develop a metal dish drainer, it started to grow and a factory was soon opened in Zwijndrecht.

After the Second World War, the reconstruction period began in which Tomado products symbolized the modern household. They became very popular and almost every household owned one or more Tomado products. Due to the popularity of the brand, the company grew very quickly in the 1950s.

Popular products were particularly Tomador racks made of iron wire, which in the colors white, black, red, yellow and blue were reminiscent of the creations of Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Mondrian. The bookshelves with supports of wire steel and metal shelves in various pastel colors were also very well known. These are now collector's items.
