Description
Vintage round tin for RANG Fruitdrops. The decoration of this tin consists of a gold-coloured box on which a loose lid in the color dark blue with images of the various colored hard candies.

A well-known advertising slogan from that time was: Rang is rang only if it says rang.

Condition
This tin for Rang Fruitdrops is in a good vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

Tonnema & Co. is a peppermint factory in Sneek in the Dutch municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân (Friesland) that was founded in 1902 and today has a wider range of production.

The company was founded in 1902 by Nicolaas de Vries, who learned the trade at the Friesche Sugarworks and Pepermuntfabriek, popularly known as the 'Klontjesfabriek'. The name Tonnema owes the company to financier Gerrit Tonnema, a local grocer, who enabled De Vries to develop from foreman to manufacturer. Other partners were Messrs. Zandstra and Wip.

The most important brand was King, a brand name that was thought up during a walk through England. This brand was registered in 1922. King would be the abbreviation of 'Quality Unmatched'. In 1926, the licorice brand Italiano was introduced at the time in bags of 100 grams. It was touted as a medicine for the common cold.

The factory was located on the Gedempte Pol, corner of the Prins Hendrikkade, and moved to Kleinzand in 1905. In 1924, De Vries bought out the last partner (Anne Zandstra) and the company came entirely into the hands of the De Vries family. Around 1935, De Vries transferred control to his three sons. In the same year, Tonnema introduced the chocolate candy Rocco. In 1956 and Rang was introduced in a fruit and a menthol variant.
