VéGé stands for VErkoop GEmeenschap (sales community), it was a Dutch national organization of independent grocers. It was founded in 1938 by the wholesaler Theo Albada Jelgersma from Breda.
De VéGé, together with De Spar, the Centra, the Sperwer Groep and the ViVo, was one of the large Dutch voluntary branch companies. In 1939, 2,400 stores were members of the organization. After the Second World War, branches were also established outside the Netherlands. In 1961 there were 28,900 grocers affiliated to the VéGé in ten countries.
In the early 1980s, the VéGé stores, together with those of the ViVo, were taken over by Unigro and continued under the names Super and Circle.
