In 1978, after a number of steps, the company finally became wholly owned by the American company Sara Lee. The company was spun off in mid-2012 and DE went public as D.E. Master Blenders 1753 NV. After an offer for all shares, the company will be wholly owned by a German investor at the end of 2013.
