Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (Amsterdam, May 31, 1821 - Ixelles, February 28, 1909) was a Dutch-Belgian painter who specialized in romantic animal paintings. She is best known for her paintings of cats, which were very popular in the late 1800s. She signed her paintings after her marriage to "Henriëtte Ronner".

Her famous scenes with long-haired cats in bourgeois salons were usually not created until after 1870. It is mainly these scenes, with their phenomenal texture rendering and their anecdotal character, that gave Henriëtte Ronner her lasting fame. Those cat scenes are more like accessory still lifes, enlivened with sweet, playful cats and cat boys.

At the same time, Knip was a renowned portraitist of dogs and cats and as such immortalized the lapdogs of Queen Maria Hendrika and Maria van Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Countess of Flanders.

In the large garden behind her house, she kept numerous (hunting) dogs, cats and a parrot in specially equipped enclosures. The animals were regularly brought to the studio to pose, either free-roaming or placed in a glass cage. Once the preliminary studies with the desired poses were over, Knip converted the outlines of the animals into rough paper sculptures and placed them in the desired places in the montage for the painting, which usually consisted of antique furniture, and draped textiles and various antiquities.
