Curver Benelux BV, known by the brand name Curver, is originally a Dutch producer of plastic household items. The company's products are sold by retail chains in Europe and beyond. Curver started as a small family business in 1949 and became one of the pioneers in the use of plastics in the manufacture of products for everyday use. In 2015, the company is part of the largest producer of plastic articles in Europe.
In May 1949, brothers-in-law Pierre Curtius and Ad Verschuren started producing tubular glass for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry in Tilburg. The company was given the name Curver, a contraction of the surnames of initiators. Three years later, the company moved to nearby Rijen.
From 1954 Curver made the sealing caps of their tubular glass from plastic. At the time, many companies were still sceptical about the use of plastic. They pointed to the solidity of traditional materials such as wood, metal and glass. Because Curver was one of the first companies to have an eye for the possibilities of plastic, the company is developing into a trendsetter in this field.
