Simplex is a brand name originally used by the Steinmeier and Co. factory. Various wooden toys and educational materials (including puzzles, reading boards, play boards and clocks) were marketed under the name Simplex. Simplex is mainly known for its wooden inlay puzzles: plywood planks in which various figures have been cut out and which can be moved in and out of the plank with the aid of a (plastic) button. The creator of the puzzle board was Frits van der Vlugt, who started working with Herman Steinmeier in 1945.

Shortly after the Second World War, the first Simplex planks were made in Aalst by Steinmeier from residual waste from Philips. Round inlay puzzles were made from the discs that Philips cut from the plywood front panels to make room for the loudspeakers in their radios.

In 1972 the Steinmeier and Co company was taken over by Fisher Price Toys, part of the American Quaker Oats Company. Production in the Netherlands continued under the name Simplex Toys, in 1975 the company finally went bankrupt. The brand name Simplex has been sold and still exists, only the production takes place in China.

Since 2005, the Waalres Museum has had a large collection of Simplex toys and educational materials from the period 1945 to 1975.
