Description
Nice vintage cookie jar with nostalgic images and words from the well-known "Aap-Noot-Mies" reading board made by Hoogeveen. This tin drum is equipped with a loose lid that closes well so that the cookies do not dry out and remain crunchy. The decoration consists of a green background with various images.

Very nice design with memories of the past.

The Hoogeveen reading board, with the words "Aap, Noot, Mies", etc., is a wooden board of Dutch origin with images on it and the corresponding words below. It is the best-known example of a reading board in the Netherlands.

A reading board is an aid to learning to read. It consists of a board with one or more ledges on which the letters of the word depicted above the ledge can be placed. It is in line with the 'sound method' introduced around 1800, in which children pronounce the letters of a word one after the other as they should sound, ie aa-p, nn-oo-t, mm-ie-ss, and thus learn to read the word.
