Vintage cigar jar of opaline by N.V. Willem II Sigarenfabrieken Valkenswaard Holland. This large opaline cigar jar has a plastic dark blue lid. The decoration of this jar consists of a Delft Blue-like image with details of mills, ships and a village view.

This beautiful jar is signed on the bottom with NV Willem II Sigarenfabrieken. These jars were made in the 1960s and 1970s for storing cigars and tobacco. Made of sturdy milk glass/opaline. Still excellent for use as a storage container in the kitchen for sugar or salt and the like. Or as an alternative candy jar.

Condition
This opaline glass cigar jar is in good vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of the description.

Willem II is a Dutch cigar brand, nowadays mainly of smaller cigars (cigarros). It was once a large cigar factory in Valkenswaard.

The Willem II cigar factories were founded in 1916 by Harry Kersten. This descendant of a family of tobacco processors and traders from Puiflijk previously worked as a volunteer at the cigar factory of the Gebr. Van Best in Valkenswaard. k

After 1950, four more branches were established in the region. Around 1970 the company had approximately 2200 employees. After 1970, employment declined as a result of the shrinking market and increasing mechanization.
