Venz is a Dutch brand that is best known for chocolate sprinkles and similar products such as chocolate flakes.

The company was founded in 1890 in Amsterdam, as a wholesaler of chocolate and confectionery, by Hendrik de Vries. The name Venz is an abbreviation of 'de Vries EN Zonen'. When his son Gerard de Vries joins the company, the company will focus more on the production of chocolate and confectionery. This branch is doing so well that in 1928 four business premises were needed for the entire production.

In 1930 a factory is opened in Vaassen that focuses on the production of sugar confectionery, such as breastplates and lollipops. After a few years, the production of chocolate bars, tablets and bonbons also started. In 1936, Venz started producing chocolate sprinkles.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Venz in the Netherlands produced Ibbeltje, a creation by Annie M.G. Schmidt, deployed to sell more sprinkles. Later, Venz brought fame with an advertisement in which the text: Het hagelt, het hagelt, grote granules Venz. So wonderfully delicious. Venz, Venz, Venz. is sung to the tune of "It's raining, it's raining". Initially, the song's third line read "so healthy and delicious", but after Venz was criticized for deception, it was changed to "so wonderfully delicious".

Ibbeltje is a character by the Dutch writer Annie M.G. Schmidt. Ibbeltje is a girl of about 10 years old who lives in a house with her father, her mother and the two cats Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Her mother is one of the most special people in her environment: she used to be a cat (a fat red one), and can therefore talk to cats. A recurring figure is the very wealthy Mr Pinkepank, who can't spare a dime and keeps trying to outdo the Katzwijm family.

Ibbeltje appeared simultaneously on the radio as a radio play, and in the weekly magazine Televizier as a story with illustrations by Fiep Westendorp.
