Older version of the well-known toffee tin.
Description
Large round tin for Mackintosh's Quality Street toffees, equipped with a loose lid from the 1960s. The decoration of this tin consists of a light background with purple and pink details. On the lid is an image of the famous soldier in costume and a young lady. On the side of the tin is a repeating panorama of the lady and soldier on a carriage with a horse in an English street. Also decorated with the text "Mackintosh's Quality Street".
The origins of the lady and soldier that have been the image of Mackintosh's chocolate fudge for decades is surprising. They are in fact characters from a play called 'Quality Street'. This piece was written by J.M. Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. Apparently, the play inspired Mackintosh's sweet makers so much that they named their then-new product directly after it.

Quality Street is the brand name of a series of sweets in the shape of chocolates.
Quality Street was created in 1936 by the company Mackintosh's and named after the eponymous play by James Barrie, which was then filmed. Quality Street is now being distributed by Nestlé.
Quality Street exists in round tin drums and in rectangular cardboard boxes. On the tins is often a picture of two characters from the play. The main colour is always purple.
Mackintosh Toffee is a candy made by John Mackintosh.
Mackintosh opened his candy store in Halifax, Yorkshire in England in 1890. The idea for Mackintosh Toffee, not too hard and not too soft, came shortly thereafter. In 1969, Mackintosh's joined with rival Rowntree to continue as Rowntree Mackintosh, which merged with Nestlé again in 1988.
