Description
A set of three beautiful tin canisters for Zaanse Koeken by Albert Heijn, consisting of a brown, a lilac and a grey tinted can with gold-rimmed Zaanse spots. The tins are all equipped with a loose lid with a rolled edge. The tins have a longitudinal seam and the bottom is also seamed. The lids have no seams. Text on the lids: Echte Zaanse Koeken / Albert Heijn Koeken. Two of the tins are marked on the bottom.

Seamed: a metalworking technique in which two thin parts of metal are joined together by means of folding and pressing.

The decoration of the tins consists of three images in a gold-coloured frame of a place in Zaandam. These concern; the Zaanse Schans, the Huisman mustard mill and the Albert Heijn store in 1887.

The Zaanse Schans is a historic Zaan neighborhood in the municipality of Zaanstad, established in 1963, with national monumental wooden buildings and industrial mills from the Zaan region relocated there. Over time, it has been supplemented with various cultural-historical museums, craft shops and catering establishments. It is located in the Kalverpolder, a protected peat meadow landscape on the Zaan, opposite the village of Zaandijk. Due to its architectural-historical and landscape value, this architectural reserve for Zaanse timber construction is a protected townscape. It developed into an international tourist destination with several million visitors every year

This set of three Albert Heijn tins is in a neat vintage condition with normal traces of use and age-related traces of wear. Photos are part of description.

Albert Heijn (AH for short) is the largest Dutch chain of supermarkets, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize.

Albert Heijn Sr. comes from the Oostzaan family Heijn. In 1887 he took over his grocer's shop in the Kerkbuurt van Oostzaan from his father Jan Heijn. Eight years later he opened the first branch in Purmerend and in 1899 he opened a Central Warehouse in Zaandam. The foundation for our own production companies was laid in 1911, also in Zaandam, where they started roasting coffee and baking cakes in the kitchen of an old mansion. Factories for rusk, liquorice, coffee, tea, wine and other products appeared along the Zaan. In 1920 the Society for the Exploitation of Factories and Commercial Affairs was founded. Anton Jurgens of Anton Jurgens' Margarinefabrieken N.V., one of Unilever's predecessors, bought half of the ordinary share capital (which he sold again in 1927 after a disagreement with Mr Heijn). In the same year, son-in-law Johan Hille and sons Jan and Gerrit Heijn took over the management.

Seven years later, in 1927, the retail chain celebrated its 40th anniversary. The company now had 107 branches and was awarded the title Purveyor to the Court. Anton Jurgens was bought out.

Albert Heijn sr. died in 1945 at the age of 80. Three years later, the company went public, Albert Heijn Jr. died on January 13, 2011.

In 1952 Albert Heijn opened its first self-service store in Schiedam. This followed the example of Gebroeders van Woerkom, who on 26 November 1946 was the first in the Netherlands to open a self-service shop in Nijmegen following the American example. On May 25, 1956, the first Albert Heijn supermarket was opened on the Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam. From 1963 Albert Heijn sold coffee under the name Perla.

In 1981 Albert Heijn started the AH franchise formula, in which independent supermarket entrepreneurs operate under the name AH. In the same year, the campaign started: The country's largest grocer is going to look after the little ones.

In 1987 Albert Heijn celebrated its centenary and the parent company Ahold was given the designation "Royal".
