The Stereo Rusk and Cake Factory in Rotterdam was founded in 1932 as a split off from the family business J. Jansse Wz. Bread and Cake Bakery. In 1966 Stereo was taken over by the Hooimeijer rusk factory.
In 1936 the male Piccolo appeared as an advertising figure for the Stereo products, which from then on were called Piccolo biscuits and rusks. After the war, Piccolo became the main character in three series of 40 gummed stickers with a story in short rhymes on the back. The pictures were also with the gingerbread and are often heavily smeared with it.
The first two series, “Piccolo's Journey to the Moon” and “Piccolo's Journey to Atlantis”, featured a simple scrapbook in the form of a text strip with rhymes beneath the pictures.
The third series, in which Piccolo ends up in prehistoric times in his jet plane, has no title. At the back of the pictures it is stated “pasted in a notebook you can still enjoy these adventures a lot”. The Piccolo series is followed by 2 series of 40 images without border, sports in images I and II, which closely resemble the sports images of Blue Band (1955), and then a series of unnumbered topographic photo images.
In 1960 Stereo released the pictures for a thin album of Ouwehand Zoo, again without a border. That was the last release of the Stereo bakery.
