Bay Keramik was founded in 1933 by Eduard Bay in Ransbach-Baumbach and was one of the most successful ceramic factories in West Germany. Their most famous designers were A. Seide and Bodo Mans. Today, Bay ceramics, which range in design from the very bizarre to extreme modernism, are very popular with interior designers and collectors. The factory, which could no longer continue with their expensive production process, ceased to exist in 1997.
The vases are usually marked with 'BAY' at the bottom. The bottom usually has a two or three-digit number (model number) followed by a space or dash and a number indicating the height in centimeters. Bay indicates the country of origin with 'W.-GERMANY'. Note the typical shape of the 'y'.
