Mikado is a game where sticks have to be picked up. The game originated in Europe and was brought to the United States from Hungary in 1936. The game is named for the highest scoring stick "Mikado" (Emperor of Japan).

The sticks are held together in one hand on the table and released so that they form a jumble. The sticks must then be removed one at a time without any movement. This may be done by using the red stick.

Standing is allowed, but you may not leave your place. In case of an error, your turn is over and the points are counted. The next player drops the sticks again. After a number of rounds, usually, 5. The player with the highest score is the winner.
