Gorgeous vintage JENAer soup plate executed in the famous 'Carina' design, also known as peacock eyes. These soup plates are from the mid 60s, early 70s. JENAer glas is a heat-resistant and chemically resistant borosilicate glass developed by Otto Schott in 1887. Today, Jena glass is produced in the Lower Bavarian town of Zwiesel (Germany).
Soup plates are in an excellent vintage condition and are marked at the bottom: Schott Mainz JENAer Glas.

This "heat resistant" users glass has been manufactured since 1920 and sold in Jena under the brand name JENAer GLAS. It was used for both industrial and household applications.
Jena is a city in eastern Germany, located on the Saale in Thuringia.
